Adopted Parrots

These are the parrots who have found great homes. We are very excited when one of these great birds find a forever home. For many of them, this is their second chance at a good life. Thank you so much to all that have adopted.

Recently Adopted

These parrots have been adopted, but are going through a 90-day evaluation period. During this time, the rescue still owns the parrot and the rescue uses the 90 days for the rescue director to make visits to the parrot's new home and to ensure that it is in a great situation. Full ownership is not given until the 90 day review period is finished and the new home is approved. You can view more information about the evaluation period.

Age: 9

Species: Congo African Grey

Story:

Andrea was surrendered with Myha after her caretaker for the last 9 years was placed in a nursing home. Her owner loved her dearly and wanted nothing more than to know that Andrea would find a wonderful home that would spoil her.

Personality:

Andrea is a very active parrot. She is always climbing, hanging, or running around her cage and she LOVES to swing on her swing in her cage. She enjoys neck scratches and will step up like a champ on a rope perch as it is more stable for her...once you get her out she goes right for the shoulder and will hang out with you for hours. She loves to whistle and call the dog with her whistles and tops it off with a "come here". She even rests her head on your shoulder so that you will scratch her neck. She consistently steps up onto a rope perch, as this is best for her balance. She will step up on a hand/arm, but you can tell that she prefers the perch for gripping. She loves to make her squeals, beeps, and whistles at you. Though most people believe that her feather problem is because she is an unhappy bird; with Andrea such is not the case...she is quite happy and comical and enjoys LOTS of attention, but also will hang out on her own if nobody is around. As we all know any bad habit is hard to break and with her it is just that, a bad habit she's just a fuzzy little beauty.

Bella was surrendered due to her family no longer being able to care for her.

Personality:

Bella loves to be very active. It is very rare to catch her just sitting around. She likes toys, especially ones that she can destroy, and her happy hut. Bella does step up and enjoys riding around on your shoulder once she gets to know you.

Story:

Winston was surrendered by a breeder along with Phoenix. They were sold to her as a pair but it became clear to her that they were not good cage mates. She decided to surrender them in order to give them a chance to find an amazing home as pets, rather than breeders.

Personality:

Winston is the life of the party. He wants all eyes on him which is typical of most cockatoos. Winston loves to dance and sing, but don't judge his singing voice to harshly. He loves having his pin feathers worked on and getting his neck scratched. He loves to eat just about anything, but is particularly fond of cous cous, oatmeal, fruits, and veggies. Winston is a wood chewer so his new family must be able to provide him with constant toys. He is a really big fan of foraging toys.

Story:

Hula came into the rescue with Dexter, the Severe Macaw. Due to her last owner's busy schedule, Hula has not recieved the time and care necessary to keep a Cockatoo happy. Combined with living outside, no toys, and too small of a cage, Hula began plucking and barbing her feathers.

Personality:

Hula has been adopted by a family that intends to spoil her for the rest of her life. Hula instantly loved the wife when they came to meet her and it was love at first for the adopting family as well. Congrats Hula!

Story:

Joseph has had a rough start to life. The people that surrendered him had purchased Joseph to get him out of a bad situation. The home would throw him in the dryer, use a bb gun on him, and other various forms of neglect and abuse. The family that surrendered him loved him, but felt that their home was not ideal for him.

Personality:

Joseph is a confident little cockatoo with more energy than a 3 year old child. His trust in people needs a little work, but already he showing his sweet side.

Story:

Dexter came into the rescue with Hula, the Moluccan Cockatoo. Due to his last owner's busy schedule, Dexter was not receiving the time and care necessary to keep a parrot happy and social. Dexter's cage was lacking the require stimulation to keep an intelligent parrot occupied when not receiving human interaction.

Personality:

Dexter is very energetic. It is rare (unless he is sleeping) to catch him sitting still on a perch. He is constantly climbing, hanging upside down, playing with toys, or talking. He eats a wide variety of foods such as bananas, pecans, walnuts, birdie bread, and papaya. He has a wide vocabulary and says things such as "Hey!", "Hello", "Step up", "How ya doin", "Hey baby", and more.

Story:

Paulie was purchased from a breeder as a young adult and, after he bit his owne,r was put in a cage for the last 10 years. He recieved no toys, new perches, etc. and was on a Sunflower Seed based diet. The cage he was in was extremely small for an Amazon and did not leave much room to move around. His owner cared about him, but had such a fear of him that she could not interact with him on even the most basic level of giving new perches and toys.

Pete came from a lovely family that could no longer meet the requirements of parrot ownership. They found themselves so busy that Pete's attention from the family started to dwindle.

Personality:

Pete is an outgoing, sweet boy who will likely step up on anyone. He loves to ride on shoulders and give lots of kisses. He has a pretty wide vocabulary, but also make noises such as whistling, meowing like a cat, barking like a dog, and whining like a dog. He also loves to play peek-a-boo.

Dewey has been adopted by one of our regular attendees at the parrot class. We are so happy when one of our little guys gets adopted, as too often they are overlooked.

Lucky was surrendered by a home that could no longer keep him.

Lucky's second foster home fell in love almost right away. He took immediately to her two boys and now the most common place to find him is riding around on Gabe's shoulder. Lucky found the perfect home, but due to his new family already having one Lucky he has been renamed Sunny.

Brutus was surrendered after spending much of his life confined to a small cage with minimal interaction. This story seems all to familiar with birds that enter the rescue with the title "aggressive."

Personality:

Brutus is a riot. He needed some time adjusting to a large cage filled with toys, but we are starting to see his wonderful personality. He is talkative and interactive. He reminds his foster dad of a puppy, as he plays like one.

Opus came to us from a loving family that could no longer give him what he needed. After adopting an infant and the hectic lifestyle that accompanies that Opus began plucking/barbing and engaging in self-mutilation.

Personality:

Opus is a doll. He is quite possibly one of the friendliest parrots we have ever had the pleasure to work with. He loves to be loved and wants constant attention. He is also a pig and has transitioned to a healthy diet with gusto. He no longer eats seed or peanuts, but rather pellets, fruits, and veggies every day.

Francis was surrendered by a loving family that could no longer care for him.

Personality:

Francis is a sweet little quaker, but like many has a large personality. Francis was being stimulated in his previous home and is very hormonally charged right now. He is super cute and loves to laugh with you. He loves to have his neck scratched and loves to eat healthy treats.

Story:

Paco is a little over a year old and was surrendered by a wonderful family that saved him from a horendous life. They saw him being sold on the side of the road in 90 degree weather. They took him home that day and gave him a new life. Unfortuntely sometimes even we start with the best intentions a bird is just not a good match for our family. Such was the case with Paco, their house was not a good match for him. They are friends with the rescue and asked if he could come into the rescue in order to find the perfect match for him.

Personality:

Paco is hilarious and loves to run around. Paco enjoys being out with people, but also enjoys shredding his little toys. He absolutely loves his pellets and eating Chop. He understands the command step up, but like any bird sometimes he just does not want to.

Story:

Picasso was surrendered by a family that could no longer keep him. Their family dog had killed one of their other parrots and they felt guilty leaving Picasso locked in his cage for the last couple years.

Personality:

Picasso is a feisty little ball of energy. He was hand tame a few years ago but after being locked in his cage for a couple years he needs some work. Picasso is eating Roudybush pellets and starting to try new foods.

Name: Niccolous

Story:

Niccolous was surrendered by his owner due to her COPD. His powder upset her respiratory system greatly.

Personality:

Niccolous is a lover and wants constant head scratches from his person. He adores attention and is likely to flip his one wing out and say, "Hello Niccolous!" He loves to eat and will try most anything once. He understands the command step up, but like any bird will sometimes choose not to.

Elmo was surrendered by a retired breeder. She hatched him 12 years ago and the family that purchased him returned him just 6 months ago when the owner's health was failing.

Personality:

Elmo is a sweet boy that just needs his confidence built back up.

Story:

She came from the same home as Elmo. She was a breeder up until now and was not thought to be "pet" quality.

Personality:

She is extremely attentive and notices everything. She is not what we consider a vocal parrot, and only gets loud when she feels like you need to be sharing the food you have. She does not know what to do with toys, but her foster mom continues to provide them to her with hopes she will discover the joys of destruction.

Rocky was surrendered due to his owner's health. She was moving in with family and could take take Rocky.

Personality:

Rocky is settling in to his new foster home and starting to come out of his shell. He loves to talk to you and ends everything with the word "Rocky."

Mumbles owner surrendered him when her college schedule became so hectic that she feared his attention time would suffer.

Personality:

Mumbles is extremely sweet and steps up like a champ. He likes to mumble at you and can say, "Hi Mumbles."

Hawkeye came in with several other birds when a local breeder released birds to the rescue.

Personality:

Hawkeye is a chipper little guy that enjoys whistling to his shadow and saying, "Pretty Bird."

Story:

Stormin Norman came into the rescue without a name and a history full of blank spots.

Personality:

Stormin Norman is quite the character and a very active parrot. He loves to eat and hang out with his foster family.

Herbert is what we call laid back. He hangs out, takes treats, walks around the house, and just watches what is going on.

Ariel is relatively quiet and enjoys just hanging out in the room around everyone. She is what we call a closet talker and enjoys just about anything food related.

Story:

Wilma was surrendered along with Fred when the family could no longer care for both of them. Fred is quite the plucker and started plucking Wilma's feathers out of her head.

Personality:

Wilma is quite the ham. She has great appetite for new foods and is a lot more social than Fred. She was quick to warm up to her new foster family and steps up well. We believe that once seperated from Fred, she will blossom even more.

Emmi came from the same home as Bufera and was very loved.

Personality:

Although Emmi was caged with Bufera originally, they are not friends. Emmi tends to pick on other birds and Bufera did not appreciate it. She is more independent than Bufera. She really likes playing with and destroying her toys. She has a wonderful appetite and gets very excited when she anticipates food coming. Her base diet is Roudybush, but she also enjoys most fresh and healthy foods. She does step up, but does not like being petted. She would prefer to sit with you while you do stuff. She really likes getting to be out on a playstand.

Story:

Bufera came from the same home as Emmi and was very loved.

Personality:

Bufera is hand tame, but like any parrot, he can and will nip on occasion. He loves toys, especially ones with straws or playing cards. Bufera is on Roudybush pellets, but gets lots of fresh, healthy foods. He seems to really like apples and grapes. He does not like to be ignored, and if he is out, he will try to find a way to get to a person.

Story:

Before coming into the rescue, Hook had over 6 different homes that we know of and spent several years at a pet store. She was kept on a terrible diet of junk food such as pastries. She was originally surrendered due to agression, but she has honestly been the most mellow macaw that we have had the pleasure to work with. Within two days of arriving at the rescue, it became apparant that she was partially prolapsing every time she defecated. After multiple vet visits, it was discovered that she had a severe infection in her cloaca.

Personality:

Hook is a wonderful macaw with a very mellow personality. She enjoys riding around on your arm and is always ready for her neck to be scratched. This girl has an appetite on her as well. She loves her pellets, but gets very excited about any food. She loves scrambled eggs, almonds, apples, bannanas, grapes, oranges, and birdie bread.

Story:

Joker was surrendered with Quigley after the owner felt she had too many parrots. Joker was hatched by the owner, but was never really worked with. His lack of social interaction combined with a sunflower seed based diet and no environmental stimulation, Joker lacks the basic understanding of positive interactions with people.

Personality:

Joker shows great potential and a desire to have attention. He took to healthy foods with gusto, immediately digging into sweet potato, banana, oatmeal, and pellets. He also lights up when people talk to him.

Name: Scarlet O'Hara

Story:

Scarlet was found inside a closet when a man was helping move some people out of an apartment. When asked what the people were doing with her, they simply said they were leaving her there. They then told the man that he could have her in lieu of payment because she was worth $1500. The man called a friend who put him in contact with a family that is friends with the rescue. They purchased Scarlet from him and began working with her. While this family is excellent parrot owners, Scarlet's needs in rehabilitation were a bit beyond their experience level. After 3 months of working with her, they decided it was in her best interest to bring her to the rescue.

Personality:

Scarlet is eating Roudybush pellets, but she will never turn down a cashew or small piece of chicken. She will definitely test her boundries with new people, but if you display confidence, she does fine. She will step up, take treats, and coo at you.

Story:

The rescue took in these 10 lovebirds when a death in the lovebird's family occured. Marley is the last lovebird left at our rescue.

Personality:

Lovebirds are gorgeous little birds with a happy little chirp. People underestimate the personalities of litter birds, but Marley has a great personality all his own.

Two years ago, Hailey's owner passed away and she was given to another family. While this family had the best of intentions, they had never owned a parrot and did not have a lifestyle that matched Hailey's needs. Hailey began plucking due to behavioral problems. They decided to surrender her into the rescue because they could not provide the attention she needed.

Hailey's favorite activity is bath time.

Kal-el was left abandoned in an apartment along with Airaya.

Kal-el is social and friendly. He likes to hang out with people, but like many conures, can have independent streaks. When he wants to, he will step up for almost anyone.

Airaya was found at 3 years old in the same apartment as Kal-el. They were both abandoned and when they were found, they were brought to us.

Airaya is very food motivated and learns tricks very easily.

Kunu was surrendered at 2 and a half years by his family who could no longer take care of him. Kunu is quite the social little parrot and will typically step up for anyone. He likes to be where the people are and is not content just being in his cage all day. He loves toys and especially likes keyboard keys! He is also an accomplished dancer and bobs his head to the beat quite nicely. He is doing very well in his new home and his favorite activity is flying.

Story:

Chloe was surrendered at 11 years old after her family could no longer care for her. The mom suspected that her two teenage boys were picking on her when no one else was home and Chloe had started to pluck the feathers on her legs and stomach.

Personality:

Chloe is quite the attention seeker and will shout, "Want out!" when she wants out of her cage. She has a small vocabulary, but we have heard her say, "Hello", "No", "What are you doing", and "Step up".

Harley was surrendered at 22 years old when her family could no longer keep her after the father was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. She was a beloved family member, but the family had to do what was best for the father and for Harley.

Hailey steps up, loves to have her neck scratched, and is quite the talker.

Story:

Louie was surrendered at 2 and a half years old after his family could no longer handle his plucking. They felt as if they were failing him and decided to authorize him. The vet contacted our rescue and we agreed to take him in. Louie's diet was not very nutritious and consisted of spaghetti, toast with butter, milk bones (yes, dog treats), and other snacks.

Louie is amazingly friendly and loves a good neck rub.

Merlin was brought into the rescue after being offered for sale to the highest bidderon craigslist. The people that purcahsed him simply wanted him to be safe and note be placed into worst case scenario.

Merlin steps up on command and loves to play on his playstands. He also loves wooden toys and like any Macaw, he can destroy a toy in minutes.

She is also an accomplished dermatologist as she tries her hardest to remove any moles or freckles she finds on you! She loves toys, especially rope and shredding toys.
