Our Education Birds

Our education birds are trained to visit preschools, grade schools, children's homes, and attend the parrot education classes that Stephanie teaches. They represent the rescue and help educate others about birds.

Duffy

  • Duffy

Duffy is a 16+ year old Solomon Island Eclectus. He came into the rescue because, despite the owner's attempts to work with him, his aggression and obvious unhappiness was too much for them to bare. When they surrendered him, you could tell they loved him, but they wanted to do what was best for Duffy. Now, Duffy is part of the director's family and is spoiled rotten. The director's daughter is his favorite person and she can often be found planting kisses all over his face. Duffy is probably one of the easiest going birds you will ever meet and is also quite the pig.

Duffy has been to colleges, elementary schools, OACAC, 4-H clubs, and education classes. He is a favorite at events because almost anyone can hold him. Duffy will continue to be part of the rescue's education program for years to come and will continue to be an ambassador for bald birds everywhere, as we say in the rescue, "Bald is beautiful!"

Rojo

  • Rojo

Rojo is a 20+ year old Greenwing Macaw that came into the rescue in January of 2012. He was surrendered after the owners could no longer care for him due to a family illness and Rojo's behaviors at the time.

The director, Stephanie Chambers, began working with him and quickly discovered that he had the potential to be a key member of the education program. Rojo has blossomed into a wonderful parrot that thrives on attention. He will wave and say "Hi" to children, and perform a handful of tricks. More importantly Rojo helps teach both adults and children about responsible pet ownership and the plight of the captive parrot.

So far, Rojo has visited preschools, grade schools, children's homes, and attends the parrot education classes that Stephanie teaches.

Mr. Pink

  • Mr. Pink

Mr. Pink is a 6+ year old Rose Breasted Cockatoo that came into our rescue in 2011. Mr. Pink was adopted by Kiera Howell, the Fundraising Coordinator. Mr. Pink was an easy decision for our education program due to his personality and ability to gain the focus of a crowd. With his cheerful saying of, "Hi Mr. Pink," it's hard to not be drawn to him.

At events and fundraisers it is likely that you will see Mr. Pink in his little harness sitting on Kiera's shoulder while she paints children's faces.

Tessa

  • Tessa

Tessa is a Congo African Grey that lives with our director, Stephanie. She came to live with our director when her current family could no longer keep her. Tessa started off as a parrot that could not handle change well and was not accepting of strangers, but after over a year of work she has come a long way. Just recently she has started her training as an education parrot and we feel confident that she will continue to improve.
